September 15, 2011 Dinner Meeting

Made in America, for the Rest of the World
Presented by Bob Bishop

Brookfield Engineering Laboratories, the world leader in viscosity measuring equipment for laboratory and process industries, began its lean journey with a unique problem: The company was already highly completive and customer-focused, providing superior quality and value world-wide and garnering significant market share in all its markets. Without a crisis to motivate employees, Brookfield management took a uniquely strategic approach to capitalize on the creativity of its experienced, long-term workforce to “make jobs hassle free” and therefore more productive. Leveraging this theme, the firm slashed lead-times, inventories and costs while improving an already excellent reputation for value and quality. In 2005, Brookfield received Gold level recognition from the Shingo Prize.

In this presentation, Bob Bishop will highlight key steps taken to transform complacency into creative energy for improvement at Brookfield, and show how this process enables the firm to remain highly competitive producing products in the US for a global marketplace.

Bob Bishop earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at MIT and his MBA at Northeastern University.
